We are delighted that Jan Morgan will be hosting this event and providing her excellent home made food.
Recent opinions put forward by the Republican candidates in the US presidential elections and from the Israeli government suggest that an attack by the west on Iran is becoming increasingly likely. The reason given is the alleged development of nuclear weapons by Iran, and the need to prevent them from doing so. For our Food for Thought event we will be looking at the likelihood that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, whether Israel and the US will decide to attack Iran anyway, and what is likely to be the position of the British Coalition government if they do. Iran is a bigger country than Iraq, so the fallout of attacking Iran could be every bit as significant as the war in Iraq. Will the Liberal Democrats, under pressure from being in Coalition government, be on the right side of this very important argument? We are delighted that our guest speaker will be professor Paul Reynolds, who gave an excellent presentation of the situation in Afghanistan in Hackney 2 years ago. He is now getting support for an emergency motion at our spring conference.Entry is £12, or £6 for those on low incomes. This pays for a dinner which includes vegetarian options.
