Closing a successful primary school - to grab its land for a free school?
(Monday, February 10, 2014)

Meeting type:Public Meeting
Date:Monday, February 10, 2014
Time:5.30pm - 7.30pm
Description:

At 6pm on Monday 10 February 2014, Conservative Cabinet members on Hammersmith & Fulham Council will sit down to decide whether to close a primary school. They thought they had closed it on 20 January, but the decision was called in by the Council's Education Committee which recommended that they should reverse their decision.

Sulivan Primary School is rated Good with Outstanding features by OFSTED. Its KS2 results last year were in the top 250 in England for value added and for supporting the most disadvantaged pupils. The Mayor of London recently awarded it membership of his Gold Club of top-performing schools.

A few years ago, Sulivan was struggling but thanks to the pupil premium and the hard work of its teachers and staff it goes from strength to strength. Its reception class is full and it has a waiting list for its oversubscribed nursery.

Sulivan School has applied to become an academy with support from the London Diocesan Board, and the overwhelming majority of parents and the local community. The Tories say they support academies, but the Department for Education has put its application on hold at the request of the Council so that it can close it down instead.

So why do the Tories want to close it? Because it occupies a valuable plot of land which is the preferred site of a new selective CofE secondary free school which is backed by leading Conservative politicians.

Come and join us as we and hundreds of campaigners try to persuade our asset-stripping Council not to close this popular pupil premium success story!

Meet us outside the Town Hall by 5.30pm or come inside.

Hammersmith Town Hall, nearest tube: Ravenscourt Park (Disctrict) 5 mins or Hammersmith Broadway (Piccadilly, Hammersmith & City, District) 15 mins. King Street buses.
