Something really extraordinary happened this weekend. All the hard work we have done to talk to the residents of Seven Sisters about the local area and address their problems seemed to pay off. Residents understand that Labour have let them down and that voting for the Lib Dems is the only way to end the terrible neglect they have suffered. They also know what a fantastic candidate we have in David Schmitz, with his superb local knowledge and ability to get things done.

All this means that we seem set for a photo finish election on Thursday ? Labour have held this ward for ever and a day and will not give it up without a fight. That is why it?s so important that we finish strongly ? it?s all up to you now so please do come and help.

We will be meeting outside the Oakdale Arms on the corner of Hermitage road and Oakdale Road (283 Hermitage Road, N4 1NP www.oakdale.notlong.com) to deliver letters and knock on doors at the following times:

6:30pm tonight (Monday)
7am tomorrow (Tuesday) to do our entryphoned blocks
6:30pm tomorrow night

Then on Wednesday we will be attempting to deliver a leaflet to everybody during the day (to be on their doormat as they come home from work) so come to our 3 Compasses HQ (62 High st N8 7NX www.threecs.notlong.com ring me for entry) any time from 10am.

Then that evening we will be meeting again at the Oakdale for one final canvass.

On polling day (Thursday) itself we will be meeting outside the Oakdale at 5am for our early morning leaflet drop. We will have a warm car which we will use as a base so please do still come even if you can?t make it until 6. Afterwards we will be going for a greasy spoon breakfast on Seven Sisters Road.

Then we will spend the whole day until 10pm getting our voters out. This will happen form David Schmitz?s house at 88 Falkland Road (N8 0NP http://davidschmitz.notlong.com)? so please do come along any time from 10-10 and lend a hand.

If you can?t find anybody at any of these points please ring me on 07763745402 and I will put you in touch with the right person.

All the best and with your help we can win!

Fred Carver
David Schmitz's election agent

P.S.It's a lot I know - and we certainly don't expect you to do everything. But any minute you can spare will make a huge difference.

It's the final weekend! This thursday people will go to vote in the Seven Sisters by-election and, if we get it right, they will cause a major upset and turn the ward Liberal Democrat for the first time ever. We desperately need to do a lot of work to make sure that happens though - not least putting out our latest leaflet full of the wonderful things local people have been saying about David. In particular Nevres Kemal, the heroic Haringey Social Worker who spoke out over failings in Childrens' Services has backed David.

Every minute you can spare will be an enormous help. Don't worry if you've never done anything like this before. We'll pair you up with an old hand who will show you the ropes.

We will be out every day, invariably meeting outside the Oakdale Arms (283 Hermitage Road, N4 1NP www.oakdale.notlong.com). Call me on 077 637 454 02 if you can't find anyone.

We are meeting at 8am, 10am and 3pm on Saturday and at 10 and 3 on Sunday. See you then!

In addition David has written personally to every person in the ward. Now we need to stuff those letters. Please come to our 3 Compasses HQ tomorrow from 10am and join the stuffing party! (The 3 Cs is 62 High st N8 7NX www.threecs.notlong.com ring me for entry).

Every step we take in local elections brings us one step closer to removing Labour from power in Haringey. This terrible council fails each and every one of us every day - and of course it was they that so tragically failed Victoria Climbe and Baby P. Please do come and help. It is only with your help that we can stop them.

I look forward to seeing you.

Fred Carver
David Schmitz's election agent

A big thank you to all the people who have helped out. Our campaign to move one step closer to removing Labour from control of Haringey and win the Seven Sisters by-election has started well. People are responding to our message that change is needed in Haringey, but we have lots to do in an area where Labour just assume they will get back in. To get our excellent candidate David Schmitz elected we need to make maximum use of the time between now and polling day on 15th January

That means campaigning harder than ever over the Christmas and New Year break. So please do join us to get some fresh air and work off those Christmas calories. Previous campaign days over Christmas have been some of our most popular - a great opportunity to catch-up with the outside world after the family festivities.

We plan to have leaflet delivery and canvassing sessions every day except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Please call me on 077 250 496 25 if you want some leaflets to deliver in your own time.

Don't worry if you've never done anything like this before, we'll make sure an experienced hand is there to show you the ropes!

Monday - Thursday this week we will be meeting 6.30pm outside the Oakdale Arms (283 Hermitage Road, N4 1NP) for delivery and canvassing. And on Saturday and Sunday at 10am and 3pm.

I look forward to seeing you.

Richard Wilson
Chair of Haringey Liberal Democrats Campaign Team

P.S. If you'd rather stay warm them please got in touch and we will furnish you with letters to write or telephone canvassing - whatever suits!

As you may have heard Seven Sisters Labour councillor Fred Knight has sadly died after forty seven years of service.

As our Tottenham PPC, David Schmitz, said at the time:

"One needed to have only the slightest acquaintance with Fred in order to see that here was a man of great warmth who had gone into politics for all the best reasons. In his dealings with us, he always treated us not so much as rivals, but as younger recruits to public service who were to be welcomed. We will greatly miss him."

Convention normally demands that campaigns don't start until after the funeral, but activist from one other party have taken the unfortunate step of formally starting the by-election and not even waiting for Fred's funeral. The local Labour party started delivering leaflets only a few days after Fred died.

We will therefore be campaigning in Seven Sisters as of now, and we are fortunate to have in David Schmitz a fantastic and very active PPC who has been working hard in the area on many key local issues in Tottenham ? not least the hugely controversial Wards Corner Development near Seven Sisters Tube, just outside the ward.

I know from the calls we have been receiving in the office how angry many of you are over the constant failings in Labour-run Haringey services ? especially in recent week, over the appalling tragedy of Baby P. The Labour administration encourages and presides over a culture of secrecy in which mistakes were covered up and whistleblowers ignored. By defeating Labour in the by-election we can send those responsible the only sort of message they understand, and elect a hard working local champion for the people of Seven Sisters who will hold Haringey council to account.

We will be meeting at the Oakdale arms 10am every Saturday and Sunday and 6:30pm Every Monday to Thursday (except Christmas eve, Christmas day, New Year's Eve and New Year's day). In addition please get in touch if you can do clerical work or telephone canvassing.

The Oakdale Arms is at 283 Hermitage Road N4 1NP (corner Hermitage Road and Oakdale Road). Anyone coming via Hermitage Road must approach from St. Ann's Road, as there is a barrier to anyone who approaches from the opposite direction. It is on the right just after the railway bridge. If you are coming on public transport it is just a short walk from Manor House tube, or from Harringay Green Lanes overground station. St Anns road is serviced by many buses.

Kind regards,

Fred Carver
Agent in the Seven Sisters by-election.

It's almost over! By the small hours of Friday morning we will either have successfully elected Nigel Scott to the Council, or we will have yet another Labour councillor.

I've known Nigel for over ten years - he's been a member of the local party for even longer than I have! All of us owe Nigel for his tireless devotion to our party (and its predecessor parties). He will make a fantastic councillor and his election would be a powerful blow against this terrible Labour-run council.

But this won't happen without us. So please do help, it really is thanks to people like you that we are such a formidable campaign machine! Below are five things you can do to help. If you could do even one of them it would make an enormous difference.

1 Delivering personal hand-written notes from Nigel to people in the ward today, tomorrow or on Wednesday. These are available from our 3 Compasses HQ (62 Hornsey High St N8 7NX http://threecs.notlong.com) which will be open every waking hour from now until Wednesday night.

2 Talking to voters on the doorstep. We will be out every night at 6pm from outside the Maid of Muswell on Alexandra Park Road (N10 2DB http://maidofmuswell.notlong.com) give Nigel a ring on 07787 982 821 if you're running late.

3 Sitting outside a polling station on Thursday for a couple of hours taking down the details of the people who have voted - ring Susan on 07930 411 659 for more details.

4 Delivering the very early morning leaflet on Thursday morning. Meet 233b Alexandra Park Road (N22 7BJ http://goodmorningalexandra.notlong.com) at 5am or 6am - a full breakfast afterwards.

5 Knocking on our supporters doors on Thursday to persuade them to come out and vote all day: 9:30am to 10pm based out of 233b (details as above).

I really look forward to seeing you soon.

Best wishes,

Lynne

Liberal Democrat MP for Hornsey and wood Green

P.S. The BNP were out in force this weekend - please come and help to make sure it was an utter waste of their time.

First to say many many thanks to all of you who came out over the weekend in Alexandra - it really gave Nigel, Dave and me a boost!

This week there is yet more delivery and we really have to get the last few blue envelopes written - so let me know if you have a spare minute for that!

We will be knocking on doors as usual tonight and on Thursday at the Maid of Muswell (N10 2DB http://maidofmuswell.notlong.com) on Alexandra Park Road - we are trying to start earlier at 6pm as the nights are drawing in fast - so let us know if you can make it - or if you are coming but may join us later!

We will also be canvassing, delivering, and stuffing blue envelopes all weekend - so please drop in whenever you have a spare moment.

Finally if any of you can't canvass in person but could telephone canvass from home please drop me an email letting me know how much time you have.

Many thanks all your support so far and see you soon!

Best wishes,

Susan
for and on behalf of Nigel & Dave :-)

It's a great pleasure to be able to tell you that one of my longest standing friends in politics - Nigel Scott - has been selected to fight the Alexandra by-election. Nigel has been working hard for Haringey residents ever since he moved into the borough seventeen years ago. That's even longer than I've been on the campaign trail! He has been a governor of two local schools, and was a key part of the campaign to get Alexandra Park School opened - the school where two of his children went. He's also an effective local campaigner - having persuaded the council to install a controlled pedestrian crossing in Park Avenue at a busy spot by Alexandra Palace Station.

I will be spending a lot of time getting Nigel elected so I hope to see you on the campaign trail. Our 3 Compasses office (62 High St N8 7NX http://threecs.notlong.com) is open 10-6 every day (including weekends) as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays until late. In addition we will be canvassing on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm and Sunday mornings at 11am. We usually meet outside the Maid of Muswell (N10 2DB http://maidofmuswell.notlong.com) on Alexandra Park Road.

Kind regards,

Lynne.

Lynne Featherstone
Liberal Democrat MP for Hornsey and Wood Green.

P.S. Polling day has been set for October 9th. If you are free, please mark it in your diary. However I, and many other people, will not be able to make it as this is Yom Kippur, the most important Jewish holiday. We have been pushing the council hard to change the date but they will not. We are doing everything we can to make sure Jewish voters are aware of the issue and are able to apply for a postal vote, so if you know of anyone affected please ask them to get in touch.

On behalf of Lynne Featherstone

I hope you were as pleased as I was to see Rachel Allison elected in Highgate with such a massive majority. Part of the reason we did so well is because we were so successful in making sure that voters knew what an effective candidate they had in Rachel - particularly at crucial moments like when they were about to vote.

We made sure that every postal voter in Highgate had a leaflet about Rachel at the same time as they received their postal vote. That meant getting up early on a Saturday morning but it was time well spent.

Postal votes for the London elections go out this Saturday and we also have a very impressive local candidate in Monica Whyte. In order to get a message to each of them by the time they open their post on Saturday morning we will have teams going out at various different times from 5am until noon.

We would really appreciate you help in this, in fact it will be impossible without you. So if you can help please reply letting me know where, when and for how long you will be available to deliver leaflets.

Many thanks and happy campaigning.

From Rachel

I just wanted to write to thank you for the enormous amount of help I have received. We've made a really good impression here in Highgate and Archway and that is in a large part down to your hard work, I cannot thank you enough.

It's not over yet though! There's still a lot more to
do before polling day so please do come along and lend a hand to help us over the final few hurdles.

Canvassing:
We will now be meeting outside Jacksons Lane at 6:30 every weekday plus at 11am and 2pm on Saturday and 11am and 6pm on Sunday. If you are coming please ring ahead on 07763745402 so we have enough stuff prepared for you.

Delivery:
To convert all our effort over the last few weeks into an actual result we need to get our last few leaflets out. Our Three Compasses HQ (62 High St N8 http://threecs.notlong.com) will be open from 10 till 10 every day so please come along and pick stuff up.

Office tasks:
We have to stuff our final personal letters from me - a huge task - so they can be delivered before polling day. They will be available from Thursday evening onwards so please come along and lend a hand.

Polling day 6th March:
If you could sit at one of the polling stations taking
down numbers from supporters for a couple of hours
please get in touch with Monica on 0797 666 5110. This is a very important job and would be much appreciated.

For the rest of the day, and for everyone else, the
day will start at 5am at my house (28 Claremont Road N6 http://RachelAllison.notlong.com) with our first delivery. Knocking on our supporters doors will
continue throughout the day until the polls close at
10pm. we'll then go to the pub - our pub (the Three
Compasses, address as above) to wind down whilst
waiting for the result. They are licensed until one.

It's going to be a lot of work, but it is very much
worth it, and we're having a lot of fun along the way.

Again, thank you, and I hope to see you over the next week.

Best wishes,

Rachel.

P.S. Why not add my facebook event at
http://byelection.notlong.com so you can keep in touch with all the latest developments?

I'd like to introduce you to a friend of mine. Rachel Allison is our choice to be the next Councillor for Highgate. She is a worker, with a passion and a knowledge for the local area and the drive and determination to make a difference for local people on the council.

Rachel is intimately involved with the life of Highgate and Archway. She has lived in Claremont Road, Highgate for twelve years ? having first moved to Haringey in 1986. Her children attend St Michael ' s Primary, and she has recently been appointed as a Governor of Blanche Neville, another Highgate School. Rachel cares passionately about the environment. She has an allotment on Shepherds Hill, drives a hybrid car and is a member of Friends of the Earth, and the Organic Association. With a hugely varied career and range of talents, Rachel has worked as a freelance video producer and copywriter ? but her skills don't end there. She has recently created a cold sore remedy!

I think Rachel would make a fantastic councillor - but in order to achieve that we are all going to have to work our socks off ! If you can help, please come to the Three Compasses, 62 High St, Hornsey N8 7NX (map http://threecs.notlong.com) between 10am and 9pm seven days a week and muck in. Right now our main priorities are:

Canvassing - we will have canvassing available from the Three Compasses at all times, or if you'd like to meet Rachel we will have two large teams canvassing from Highgate tube - the first at 6:30pm on Thursday and the second at 11am on Sunday .

Delivery - Our next leaflet - introducing Rachel to the people of Highgate and Archway - will be ready for dispatch from mid-afternoon on Tuesday. Come along and take some.

Clerical - If you are not able to canvass or deliver, then you can always give us a hand with our clerical operation. In addition we would really appreciate someone working our stuffing machine on Thursday and Friday of this week.

I'm looking forwards to seeing you either at the 3 Compasses or on the streets of Highgate!

Best wishes,

Lynne.
Lynne Featherstone MP - Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Hornsey and Wood Green

P.S. Polling day is now set for March 6th. Please keep the day free (or just the evening if you work) and come and join us to give the residents of Highgate and Archway the new champion they deserve.

Dear friends,

I'm writing to let you know that my friend and colleague Justin Portess is standing down from the Council. He is starting a new family and moving away from the area, and therefore feels that he can no longer represent the ward. As a result there will be a by-election in Highgate.

Highgate is a strategically very important ward and - despite our strong record of local action - we are sure to have a fight on our hands. For this reason we will be campaigning very hard straight away!

If you can help, please come to the Three Compasses, 62 High St, Hornsey N8 7NX between 10am and 9pm seven days a week and muck in. We have activities to suit all types of people: doorknocking, delivering leaflets and clerical tasks - we have a lot of envelopes to both address and stuff. If you would like to do clerical tasks at home, or if you live close to Highgate and would like us to bring tasks to you, please get in touch on 07763745402 or hornseyandwoodgreen@yahoo.co.uk.

We don't know when the by-election will be but it is likely to be very late in February or early March. I hope to see you some time before then on the campaign trail.

All the best,

Lynne.
Lynne Featherstone MP
