DESCRIPTION:Most people feel cut off from politics &ndash\; left out or eve
 n ignored most of the time. They don&rsquo\;t have a voice to influence wh
 at happens in our country. Since becoming leader of the Liberal Democrats\
 , I have held public meetings up and down the country where I meet ordinar
 y people\, for an open discussion. No scripted questions\, no pre-prepared
  answers &ndash\; just a frank talk between me and local people\, on issue
 s\, problems\, and how we can solve them.On the 30th October I will be in 
 York\, continuing my series of public meetings. It&rsquo\;s no use politic
 ians waiting in Westminster and assuming they know everything. If you want
  to understand how issues like the credit crunch really affect people\, yo
 u&rsquo\;ve got to be out meeting people and listening. The public meeting
 s are a great way to do that - to keep in touch with what matters to real 
 people\, outside the Westminster bubble.&nbsp\; Politics is so often about
  schoolboy fighting in the House of Commons &ndash\; and far too little ab
 out listening. These meetings are about doing things differently\, so I ca
