Charlemont by-election action weekend
(Saturday, June 23, 2007)

Meeting type:Campaigning session
Date:Saturday, June 23, 2007
Time:10.00am - 4.00pm
Description:

West Bromwich & Warley Liberal Democrats need your help! Due to illness and holidays we have scarce resources to deliver FOCUS leaflets and canvass on the weeknd of 23-24 June.

We will be contesting a by-election in Charlemont with Grove Vale ward on Thursday 28th June. The ward is located on the northern side of West Bromwich and currently has two sitting Conservative councillors. The third seat is available because former Conservative (and former Lib Dem) councillor Alan Burkitt was removed from office in April 2007 after being handed a 12 month suspended sentance for four counts of causing prostitution between November 2005 and February 2006.

Despite having no councillors, the Liberal Democrats have a strong history in the ward. The 200th edition of FOCUS is being written and Liberal Democrats have successfully won elections in the ward in recent history. This year we came a disappointing 4th, largely due to a strong BNP campaign. However, it is expected that after a poor all-round showing on 3rd May, the BNP vote will drop off.

The Local Government Conference is in Birmingham this weekend so if you are about and fancy helping out give me a shout...

If anyone can help please let me know!

Please note the meeting address is my home address which is several miles from the ward we are fighting. Lifts from this location are available!
